For many years, the serialization of history all over the world has had a western perspective attached to it. It is a fact that most civilizations had ways of recording their histories but with the imperialism and the ensuing colonization, the only stance that was allowed to examine and interpret such histories was that of the colonizer. One victim of this lopsided view of history is Islamic Art. Though most of the artistry that eventually found its way to the western world emanated from Islamic ideas, there is little credit for this. However, all is not lost as today; you still have a chance of understanding the great achievements and how they came about.

There is a saying that art is a mirror of society. This applies to Islamic works so appropriately that it has enabled the propagation of the same for centuries. All art emanates and mirrors the society and the society reflects religion so in essence they are interlinked which has led to popularity of Islamic works from literature to painting and other artistic designs. To understand this art, then you must have an inkling of the religion because all inspiration is first gotten from Allah. The central idea is that whatever an artist does mirrors the Cosmos that God wants and this forms the basis of any interpretation of the works. Scholars such as Mizra Ghalib perfected their poetry on this principle.

Having understood it, it is possible to go ahead and experience Islamic works such as Urdu Poetry whose influence is both Hindu and Islamic. There are calligraphy manuscripts from classical ages, to ceramic designs, Urdu poems among others that you can enjoy at any display of Islamic works. As you enjoy it, remember the idea behind it; God is beautiful and loves beauty.
